Municipal sources from Cieza City Council explained in a statement that, "After more than two years of waiting for payment of the 2016 annual installments from the Ministry of Finance, the payment was made at the meeting held this Tuesday with the relevant minister, also settling the 2018 annual installment. This will allow the Siyâsa Tourism Project to be launched."
The Ministry of Tourism reports that it has already prepared the projects for tender. These projects will include the construction of a roof over the site for improved conservation and maintenance. Construction of a visitor reception center will also begin, the abandoned settlement will be converted into a museum, and services such as electricity and water, among others, will be provided, and the site will be made accessible to people with physical or motor disabilities.
For all the projects proposed by the Tourism Department, the corresponding permits have already been requested from the Environment and Culture Department. Once the process and construction are completed, the abandoned Medina Siyâsa settlement will become another tourist attraction in the municipality, as well as a new asset for the city's economic and cultural development.
"As part of promoting tourism, we are strengthening our city's archaeological heritage. We have important attractions that have remained invisible to the outside world. 'Cieza is much more than what you see,' and, based on this slogan, the Department of Tourism is working to raise awareness of our treasures beyond our municipal boundaries," the aforementioned sources indicate.
Finally, Antonio Moya, Councilor for Tourism, refers to "historical and cultural heritage as the origin of who we are. No one understands the landscape and the fit of our municipality in this setting without the cultures that have led to the Cieza we know today. Tourism can continue to grow and bring economic benefits to our municipality."
