A meeting held this week between the Director General of Tourism Competitiveness and Quality of the Autonomous Community, Eva Reverte, and the mayors of the municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants in the Ricote Valley (Blanca, Ricote, Villanueva del Río Segura, Ulea, and Ojós) has laid the groundwork for creating a new SICTED (Comprehensive System of Tourism Quality in Destinations) destination in the Region of Murcia.

Currently, the municipalities of Cieza, Archena, Abarán, and Blanca have joined the destination quality improvement project promoted by the Secretary of State for Tourism with the support of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), with the aim of improving the experience and satisfaction of those who visit them. This is not the case for those with smaller populations, which are located in the heart of the Valley.

Investments from the Region of Murcia in the Ricote Valley

Reverte explained that "the regional government has invested more than 234,000 euros in improving tourism quality and sustainability in businesses and services in the tourism sector, and the Ricote Valley, due to its uniqueness and beauty, is a highly attractive tourist destination in our region that cannot be left out of this distinction."

"At this first meeting, we proposed the creation of a community, modeled after the Sierra Espuña Territory, which is already operating as a destination within the SICTED," the director general emphasized.

The Region of Murcia is working on the continuous improvement of its tourism sector, "which makes us one of the five autonomous communities with the best results in the SICTED project. We have 28 participating tourist destinations and, through the General Directorate of Tourism Competitiveness and Quality, we coordinate the activities in the participating regional destinations, financing the activities to be developed with the businesses and services in each destination, and assisting in the promotion of this project and the distinguished establishments," concluded Eva Reverte.
